Received from:

Congress notes:

i. that the High Court decision of 15th August on the Bell Hotel at Epping will only increase the confidence of those far-right groups at the heart of the wave of often violent protests that have once again swept Britain this summe

ii. that Tommy Robinson former leader of the English Defence League will seek to build on this  on his so-called free speech – in reality a far-right protest in London on Saturday 13 September

iii. that Robinson is being strongly backed by the world’s richest man Elon Musk and a host of far-right figures, including ex-Trump adviser Steve Bannon, who wish to divert attention to migrants and away from the growing inequality in our society

iv. Congress congratulates the TUC General Council for supporting the counter protest initiated by Stand Up to Racism.

Congress believes:

a. that mainstream politicians aping the rhetoric of Reform UK has only played into the hands of those wishing to target and abuse asylum seekers and diverts attention from the real causes of the problems our society faces.

Congress resolves to:

1. urge members to support the counter mobilisation on Saturday 13 September

2. continue to support anti-racist organisations like Stand Up to Racism, HOPE not hate and Show Racism the Red Card.

3. seek to deepen the links between the trade union movement and anti-racist organisations at a national, regional and local level in order to build organisation and strengthen our counter narrative.

Recommendation:

I. To endorse the submission of the above emergency motion.
