Received from:

Congress notes and applauds the hard work, organising and commitment over many years which have helped create legislation around equalities, health and safety and employment that give us the rights we have today.

These rights have been hard won and helped to build the trade union movement we have today and we recognise the need to commitment and dedication over the years of trade unionists who shaped this landscape.

We always want more and we will always fight for greater rights. What we will not accept, however, is any government of any persuasion that tries to row back and diminish these rights. Whether it’s the Equality Act, health and safety legislation or even the recent Employment Act we will stand together to defend these hard-won rights.

Congress calls on the General Council to be ready to fight against any government that wants to strip people of their rights.

Congress further calls on the General Council to ensure that if and when these rights come under threat, we have already planned a response and not wait for it to happen.

Congress calls on the General Council to proactively highlight the rights that working people have and the consequences of them being taken away.
