Congress notes:

i. Congress’s support for the Wages Not Weapons campaign, prioritising investment in workers and public services.

ii. working people in the UK face insecurity arising from conflict, inequality, attacks on democratic rights, economic instability and climate change

iii. the work of the ITUC and ETUC in promoting peace, social justice, democracy and common security.

Congress believes:

a. real security is built through decent work, strong public services, social protection, democratic institutions, environmental sustainability and international cooperation

b. lasting security is advanced through social justice, diplomacy, peacebuilding, human rights and respect for international law

c. protecting fundamental rights and freedoms includes defending the right to conscientious objection.

Congress, therefore, calls on the General Council to:

1. build on the Wages Not Weapons campaign by advancing a trade union vision of security based on decent work, quality public services, equality, climate action, democracy and peace

2. campaign for sustained public investment in health, education, housing, social care, social security and climate resilient

3. raise awareness of fundamental rights, including the right to conscientious objection and opposition to compulsory military service in the UK

4. work with the ITUC, ETUC and other partners to promote conflict prevention, diplomacy, international cooperation, human rights and respect for international law

5. report to Congress on progress in advancing this agenda.
