The recent pandemic has exposed without doubt that SSP is not fit for purpose and is insufficient for people to survive on. Congress asks that the TUC leads a campaign, working with the Labour Party to introduce a scheme which includes the legislation needed to enforce it, that will place a levy on those employers who fail to pay company sick pay. This will then be used to fund an increase in SSP to enable workers to receive a living wage whilst they are off sick.
